FAQ

Where do I park?

There is parking on the street in front of the studio, on both sides of Milling Rd. Across the street is Jacob’s Landing Park.
Public transit comes very close to the studio, to the corner of Guelph Ave. and Sheffield St.

Do I have to show my belly?  What do I wear to class?

Click on thumb for larger image.
No you don’t have to show your belly.
Yoga pants and a close fitting top are best.
Your instructor needs to see your knees, isolated movements and posture, we will be moving around quite a bit, and some of our stretches involve getting on the floor so a skirt could prove difficult….and potentially embarrassing!
Belly dance is traditionally danced in bare feet, but you may wear soft soled Jazz shoes, or soft soled half shoes.

You may want to bring your own yoga mat for the cool down stretches at the end of each class.

Why are the beginner classes a 6 week session and the others 12 weeks?

If you are taking belly dance for the first time, you may not know what it is all about…you may not want to commit to a full 12 weeks.  It takes 6 weeks just to cover a few of the basic moves.
Those dancers who are in intermediate and advanced classes already know they can’t get enough!!

The street outside suddenly became a sheet of curling ice!! Is class cancelled?

Wow…curling ice? That actually happens at least once every winter since I’ve lived in Ontario…..Hespeler is very hilly…and I live on a hill…..I wouldn’t want to drive down a sheet of curling ice and I wouldn’t want you to….give me a call/e-mail me/check my site….. to see if class is cancelled. There will be opportunity to make up the classes either during the remainder of the session or an extra opportunity scheduled.

My friend/sister/cousin is in from out of town and wants to come to class with me….can I bring them?

Please let me know ahead of time….some of the classes are very full.
They would have to pay the drop in rate ($15)…they will be expected to dance along with the class (doing as much as they can)
It is unfair to the other participants who may still feel a bit self conscious, to have someone come in and not participate.

What level do I sign up for?

If you have never taken a belly dance class before, the introductory/ beginner classes are the classes to take.
If you have taken a session or two with me, or any of the other fine instructors in the area, a beginner class is still the best class to enroll in.
You should expect to dance for about a year at the beginner level, before moving into the intermediate classes. How quickly you advance is dependant upon how often you practice, if you’ve had other dance training, how coordinated you may be naturally…..a range of reasons!

If the basic moves are feeling comfortable and you feel you need more of a challenge, learning choreography now seems easy, then the intermediate classes are going to be the best classes to continue to layer and refine movements.

Advanced students will require permission from Khizmet to enroll in this class.
